The Big Day

September 11th, 2010 § Leave a Comment

Today we commemorate the end of our national innocence. We were violated on September 11, 2001 and the entire world knows all about it. For the 2752 deaths in the towers we have made 31,929 American service persons perish. On top of that we have devastated an entire country with the destruction of their buildings and the killing of over a million of their innocent citizens in pursuit of some kind of retribution. Yes, the whole world knows about our sorrow, because, like a gigantic five year old, we have stomped and screamed and thrown our bomb cookies all over the middle east.

I’m sorry if you think me cynical, but I just want to say respectfully, that falling for the draped flags on this day is a form of somnolent nationalism that allows the Big Dogs to continue their evil corporate ways. War is big business. We all know this. And yet, when push comes to shove we all must genuflect to the standard rhetoric, corporate double-speak, “they died for our sins” sort of thing. And something like 50% of homeless people are vets, so let’s not get into the “support the troops” thing. That’s another sleepwalker lie.

In reality, the corporations rejoiced at Bush’s declaration of war. Just look up how much money Halliburton and friends have made over these years and then look to see the actual people involved. How can I not be cynical?

Back to the theme. Come to think of it, the tower people did die for our sins. Our sin of greed spreading over the world, exploiting the helpless, stealing from the innocents. This is the way of the modern world. The American Way. We have succeeded in spreading the the desire for the disease we call capitalism all over the world. Everyone wants to come here to be King of His Own Castle. You’ll notice I said “he”. Because no matter how you look at it, women are still a class below men, preferable “under” in a sexual sense, the sex class. But that’s for another post.

If we open our eyes and our hearts, we will see that our policies and procedures are selfish, cruel and ultimately will defeat us. That will be a self-made disaster. That’s what I mean when I say the tower victims were not  innocent. None of us is innocent, as long as we participate in the lies of the dominator culture. We are in this life together. Like it or not.

The draped flags are there for a reason. In reality there is no such thing as reason. Reason is fabricated to give us a sense of meaning and purpose, which makes life do-able. I know this is true because when I have lost my reasons for living, I was very unhappy. We do get to make it up as we go along. All the more reason for sentience. Anyway, those in power are adept at creating reasons that will motivate you and bestow meaning unto your life and they do so with impunity. That means “unpunished,” as in “no good deed goes unpunished.” In other words, we don’t get to tell them they are wrong because they have all the power, and I mean all of it. Yes, including your mind. Yikes, now what?

We really don’t know the reason for 9/11. I’ve seen the videos of the “pancake” collapse of the buildings and heard the engineers say that it could not have happened that way. I’ve heard the people who were there tell about explosions they heard, over and over. So who’s to say, who’s manipulating who? Which reason gets priority in a situation such as this? I can’t answer that. I just don’t feel so innocent any more.

The innocents of this world are the creatures who trust us, the sentient beings, to be frikking sentient. We are unique, because we can choose our consciousness. Being somnolent is a choice. Being cruel is a choice. Being selfish is a choice. Many folks choose selfishness because they know that waiting their turn will send them to the end of the line and they don’t want to be there. Why? Because it’s the end of the line. You may not get your share from back there. Because it’s the loser position.

Is it about entitlement? We all think we are entitled to live, but no one gets out alive, so what’s the prob? Well, my prob is that seeing the flag waving and hearing the sentimental platitudes pisses me off. I ask myself why I am  such an asshole that I don’t respond properly, like everybody else. I respond just fine when I remember the cruelties and omissions that I have created in my own life, so what’s up?

I can’t stand looking at the goddamn naked emperor any more! Wake up people. We all know he’s naked, and so are all of his cronies. Sentience. Please!

Astrology by the Numbers – #1

Mars, the Number 1

by Jewell Starsinger on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 3:20pm

As Rome expanded Mars became the soldiers’ God of providence, providing food for an expanding army as the God of spring and growing fields. Eventually he became God of War, which made sense, because in Babylon he was Ninurta, evil and cruel. It seems that Mars hasn’t escaped his bad reputation over millennia, until now. I want to personally save his reputation with a few metaphysical upgrades out of several time-honored disciplines.

The second chakra

The second chakra is the chakra of individuality and sexuality. Now that’s an oxymoronic concept because it takes two for sex and one for individuality. Houston, I think we have a conundrum here. Let’s fish around for some possible answers. How about this one? When we have sex the idea is for the two to become as one. That works for me. Good answer! So our Mars energy rushes out into life seeking some kind of union. But he’s on the loose. On his own until he gets there.

Psychology

The Terrible Twos of psychology expresses Mars at its truest. The boundary-free infantile stage is gone for good and now the child has got her “me” on. She’s hard to hold. She doesn’t listen. She wants to go over “there,” where ever that is. She has learned to talk and say “no” with wild abandon. Why is it so compelling for her to escape the nest? This is how she “finds” herself. Mars pushes, climbs, wiggles and fights and flies its way out of the nest.

Seasons

His month is March/April, when spring is happening. He represents the principle of new growth and first times. He is the beginning of the life cycle, and as such, it requires courage to be a young sprout. Fortitude is the quality needed to grow in spite of late frost and torrential rain. Yet the sprout continutes upward, diligently toward the sun.

Roman

Mars was right up there in stature with his father Jupiter. He was considered a more accessible God. His archetype is all about brash, immediate action. He doesn’t fool around, he just follows orders. If the orders of the day are putting out a fire, then he is a fireman. If the castle is on fire and there is no ladder, then he jumps. He doesn’t ask questions, any more than a blade of grass would ask to grow. He lives on instinct, in the moment, in accordance with the situation at hand.

The number 1

The number 1 is first. It is the number, “to be”. It has no conscience and no rationale. It simply goes and does without question or forethought. The impulse that takes you is first. Beginner’s luck is first, innocent action. Have you ever heard someone say, “My first choice is always right!”? For that person, the truth is right there, in front, leading her on.

The First House of Astrology

The first house is angular, cardinal, and fire. Its natural sign ruler is Aries, and planetary ruler is Mars. The first house in your chart tells all about your looks. It is the house of self. Mars rules this house. It is the “me” house and represents all your self-centered concerns, desires and behaviors. It is derived from your birth time, so it is all about your moment of arrival into the air. It is where you begin. The cusp of the first house is a special angle, the Ascendant (also known as the rising sign). When a planet touches this angle, you experience it on a very personal level. For instance, when Saturn travels here, you lose weight, but when Jupiter travels here, you gain weight. When Mars locates here, you argue, with Mercury on the Ascendant, you chat.

Tarot

Mars is the Tower in tarot. Two people leap from a burning tower on to a rocky terrain below. It looks daunting and no one likes it when the thing comes up in a reading, because it has pain written all over it. Why so extreme? The instinct is extreme in that it preceeds thought. One can’t contemplate the burning building without being burned. One does not even consider the rocky conclusion of the action.
It is not Mars’ job to consider consequences.

Mars with #1 = is action
Mars with #2 = is sensuality
Mars with #3 = makes conversation
Mars with #4 = seeks to maintain
Mars with #5 = seeks love
Mars with #6 = seeks a plan
Mars With #7 = makes the deal
Mars with #8 = is power
Mars with #9 = seeks a belief
Mars with #10 = seeks authenticity
Mars with #11 = leads the way
Mars with #12 = is versatile

In my humble opinion, Mars is not the man to the Venus woman. Venus’ mate is actually Mercury. Their child was Hermaphroditos. That is beside the point. The point being that when Mars is given to men alone, women lose their second chakra. This may be why women have been in such a crappy place for so many millennia. We lost our desire nature and had to let men do that for us. I strongly urge women to reclaim their desire natures and follow their intuitions, seek their desires and generally go for the things that feel right. Urges are clues to personal identity.

Kabbala

In my humble opinion, your Mars is more personal than any other planet in your array. In Kabbala, it is called Foundation. It’s the “I AM” and the “To Be”. It’s the gasoline that fuels your life/car. Your life is founded on the “I AM”. According to kabbalists, Yesod represents god’s DESIRE to create and so it is for us, our DESIRE to BE. As humans we think we are making it up, but as creations of god, we are following the pattern that she has set down. I am not a god person, but I am a pattern person, first and foremost. These archetypes come from somewhere. I have only scratched the surface of where Mars comes from, but I don’t do all this scratching to prove anything. I am looking for the pure form. The Archetype.

The Kabbalists see god as a man and creator, in that the sperm takes the initiative to penetrate the egg. Today’s science shows that the egg actually chooses the sperm she wants. Yes, they have pictures with the egg casting a slimy net over one single sperm and incorporating the wiggler into herself. So much for patriarchy. My point in pointing all this out is to say that Mars does not equal only a penis and testicles. Women have a perfectly good clitoris with as many nerve endings a the male counterpart. Women don’t sublimate our desires because we are all naturally willing receptacles for the all mighty man-juice. We do it because of 5 millennia of training. Isn’t this what we have learned as astrologers? That within each archetype there exists huge potential for variety.

In conclusion, I believe that Mars is a Human or Life energy, represented by a spring blade of grass emerging from the dark, cold nest of mother earth. Fearless and faithful it pushes through the hard soil to manifest itself into creation. Is is also, a newborn creature, emerging from its mother, fearlessly and faithfully it begins to breath, express and BE. You get my drift!

One more thing lest my masculine readers, if there are any, become uncomfortable. The word “woman” includes man. The word “goddess” includes god. The word “she” contains he. The divine feminine holds and contains the divine spark. She is creator of everything at his request. OK, that’s enough for one day!

Blessings to you All

Jewell’s funny life.

Here’s the latest in Jewell’s funny life. The saga of Sun square Saturn…

All of my funny life, or the last two years, I have wanted magnetic signs for my car. I thought, “If I have magnetic signs for my car, I will be famous and that will make me rich and happy.” For many years, or the last 2, and many reasons I never got the signs and as  a result have lived in relative obscurity. See how these things work? Self-fulfilling prophecy or logical consequences? You decide!

I finally got a car and went to the mat. Yes it’s true, I got a magnetic sign from an internet company. Quite delighted and breathlessly anticipating fame, I took the thing out to my car, lovingly pressed it up against the door and it promptly fell to the ground. Yes, it’s true. My little Saturn is fiberglass. I think the whole damn car is fiberglass. So much for my fame and fortune.

Back to the kitchen, I smell somthin’ burning!

The North Node in 7th House
Destiny – the iron fist in the velvet glove

Obama is a Leo, but his destiny is Libra(7th House). Libra’s guiding principle is to cooperate in meaningful relationships. He really means it when he says that he wants to bring the two sides together. But he wants that for his own satisfaction. It doesn’t really matter to him if the peace is equitable, only that the peace is made. He doesn’t care if Big Business/Pharma/Insurance gets away with murder, as long as it looks like compromise, he wins. That feels like success to him.

North Node conjunct Pluto

This means that he has friends in high places who facilitate his destiny. Pluto is the planet of politics. As nice as he seems in public, he has fierce energy to win and conquer. He is no stranger to using powerful resources for his own benefit. His loyalties are directed toward the cronies, the people he knows. Sorry masses.

North Node Conjunct Uranus

The third crimp is that Uranus is also conjunct the North Node. Uranus is a thrill seeker. He may be having entirely too much fun running around to countless photo ops and town hall meetings. Too bad that Uranus (change) quincunx Saturn (tradition). He can’t find the balance between old and new. Really, he is torn. Bush policies feel like family albums to him. How could he throw away those old pictures? Well he did. He kept all those musty letters and yellowed photographs from the last administration. Why did he choose that? Maybe the present day cronies had something to do with that. The aspects do talk to each other. Check out the next one…

Jupiter quincunx Venus

This is the most troubling aspect. It means “Likes the approval of others”. If it was the public’s opinion that he coveted, then we might be all right, but with all that heavy-hitting destiny/power stuff, I think he’s after the approval of his god-like cronies. He is either a wus or a scary disingenuous dissembler. And I don’t think he’s a wus.

Is Astrology Destiny?

Is DNA destiny? How about race? How about a birth defect? Country of origin? Yes, all those factors can determine a life, but making the choice to transcend an onerous condition can shift a life into transcendental overdrive; to reach for the Higher Octave, as it were. But the ugly truth is that Obama is just a lower octave kind of guy.
